With the posting of this thread, the alliance tourney is officially under way! Start contacting your opponents and playing matches! You'll have two weeks to play each match, though I'd prefer you did it faster than that. (I'm picking two weeks to allow for vacations and such. If you're gonna be gone for a round, let me know and we'll try to make it work.) After each round is complete, I'll post the next round!

1. This tournament is double elimination: Lose two and your team is done. To cut down on byes and ensure everyone plays roughly the same number of matches, it won't be a straight tournament. So don't try to guess who your opponent is going to be and keep playing.

2. All matches will be played with a TG goal of 13,000, no E cards, random lands and no sudden death. Time and round limits are the defaults (60-second turns, 95 rounds). Talking to your opponent is both allowed and encouraged. I recommend both teams use private chat. Please be aware that because Culdcept Saga is a somewhat buggy game, it's actually possible to hear players in private chat in the main game very faintly. Do what you will with this knowledge.

3. Results are to be reported as replies to this thread. As results come in, I'll update the first post of the thread with records and matchups. When posting results from your match, it's fair to talk in general terms ("It was a race to the castle after he landed on my Level 5 land and lost his huge lead.") Refrain from specifics, e.g., "I just didn't have anything that could stop his Hive Workers and Peludas."

4. Please don't drop out. If you do, you won't be allowed to participate in other leagues I'm running. I'll allow exceptions for family emergencies, RROD, etc., but in general, the only way to get back in the mix once you've quit on a league is to serve as a dependable alternate for a season.

5. With four players in each match, you will run into disconnect issues. If you disconnect from your opponent mid-match, both teams restart the match, and may edit or change their decks if they choose. To cut down on delays caused by four people editing books over and over again, I recommend you agree ahead of time to just keep using the same books, or to only allow a set number of substitutions. But in the absence of such an agreement, assume switching books and editing is allowed. Unfortunately, disconnects are a part of the game, so try to be cool and get along with everyone. We're not wagering money on these, after all. You’ll probably experience the frustration of a disconnect when you’re up big, but you’re also probably bound to get bailed out by a disconnect in a game that isn’t going your way at some point. Such is the karma of disconnects.

I thought the Altar maps worked great in the first Alliance league. Zanador, Kargad, and Stairway to the Gods would also.

One question, How do you communicate with your partner, using the mic, during online play without giving away your plans and strategies to the opposing team?

Simple Answer = Private Chat

But, then you can't hear the other team. Some players don't use microphones though during gameplay, so you may have to find other ways to communicate (private chat via internet chat rooms).

the calgary stampede is here from july 8th to 18th. what considerations can be made so i may play please? ie time and dates? thanks

I'm still interested in playing but -- with both ladders and season 8 starting up I don't think I'll be able to do it right this moment. If we can alternate between regular season 8 and then the alliance league when that's over etc it would be more obtainable for my time constraints.

Panic no offense but I'm really swamped right now. It's hard enough for me to get all my ladder matches in (just ask Jasoya I think it took a month before we finally got our game in). My work hours aren't very productive to the Culdcept market as I work when most people are available to play. Maybe next season or I could be a fill in every once in a while.
