UPDATED: Win a custom-made Culdcept scarf!

Let's send Culdcept Revolt's online play off with a BANG!

UPDATE 4/9/2024: We have a winner! Congratulations, Wouga1!

It's contest time!!!

To celebrate and honor Culdcept Revolt and send its online play feature out with a BANG, we're giving away one of Starling's awesome custom-made Culdcept scarves to one lucky Cepter! To enter, simply play Culdcept Revolt online between now and April 8th, 2024 (when Nintendo ends the 3DS's online functionality) and post the match's graph screen in our Discord chat, in #tournaments. Each Cepter in the match will be entered in the contest. The more times you play online, the more entries you'll get and the more likely you'll be to win!

Best of luck to everyone, and have lots of fun!

(HoF) Flow (NB, 22/7/21)

ted's Yoyogi Aports 2024 tournament-winning book - Flow!

Used in the final match of Yoyogi Aports 2024. (It won! You can watch the final match here. - Andyman)

An improved version of the book used in past Junction tournaments. I'm increasing the number of creatures to increase hand efficiency. (You can discard overflowing creatures with Gifts.)

Against Fire books, the top priority is to increase the number of safe lands. My intermediate goal was to place as many Aqua Dukes as possible in play.

I wanted to use Holy Word 8 x 2 and Land Drain x 2 for the Dream Terrain frame, but I decided that they would not work very effectively against the recent Fire books, so I replaced them.

(HoF) Kaiju (NRY, 42/0/8)

Kaiju 1.29 - Tokyo Edition

First things first - I have to give credit for this concept to OldWillowScrub, since it was his Smoked Out book that first put Tiamat and Typhon together in one terrifying strategy. Kaiju wouldn't exist without Smoked Out. I just took the idea and ran with it. (And ran... and ran... and ran... you'll see.) Haha.

Likewise, I have to give credit for the name to Whooh. I originally named it Unfair! (because it is), but after I was invited to play in the Yoyogi Aports 2024 tournament in Japan, Whooh came up with its perfect new name. Why Kaiju? Because it's a Japanese term, and because Kaiju is the Godzilla of books. See? Perfect.

Kaiju has been in development for a very long time - over five years, in fact! The version you see above is 1.29. Yes, I've revised it that many times. Early on, I realized that the wilder and more outrageous I made the thing, the better it became. Eventually, I got to a point where I just couldn't make it any crazier, and the result is what you see here.

I've always referred to it as the bumblebee book. Science says it shouldn't fly, but it does! And holy jeez, does it ever. The first things that stick out are the four prereqs (2 Fire, 2 Air), and you think, "No way this would ever work!" - but it does. Because it's virtually all creatures, there are 28 creatures (!!!) with no prereqs. That's more than almost every other book in existence, and it means that you can grab the lands you need with ease. Yes, even in its preferred battleground, a multiplayer match on a mid-size map. I consider Spikes and Battle Wagon (Tower) to be its home turf.

I'm going to approach this book's description differently than any write-up I've done before, talking about each card at length, and then how they work together. Why? Two reasons: 1) It only has 13 different cards, and 2) it's tighter than any other book I've made. Each card plays a key role. No fluff here! So, without further introduction, let's dive into the unholy monstrosity that is Kaiju.

I'm back from Japan! (You probably knew that already.)

The full photo gallery of my Japan adventure is now available here on Culdcept Central! Also, here's a TL;DR recap of my Japan adventure, for those who haven't been able to keep up with the scroll in our Discord chat and my various Facebook and Twitter posts:

New Culdcept coming?

Jingu-san said "That is confidential." after laughing hard at the question. Great answer, and it makes me optimistic that a new game is already in the works!

Worldwide play?

Jingu-san is all for it, but said it's not usually up to OmiyaSoft. We want to play with them, and they want to play with us! Fingers crossed.

Tournament results?

I was in the fight for the win in each match right to the end, but it didn't break my way. Such is Culdcept! I finished 4th, 3rd, 3rd, and 3rd in the four preliminary matches and didn't advance to the final match as a result. You can watch the epic final match and several other matches on Fira Ultramarin's YouTube channel. My book, Kaiju, left a strong impression, and I'm good with that.

West meets East?

The Japanese community is just wonderful. Everyone was very welcoming, kind, generous, and super happy that I came. Likewise, I couldn't be happier to have met everyone. They want to come to the US to play with us!

Japan itself?

It's quite the experience and hard to do justice to in words and photos. Also... the food. You think Americans are foodies? The Japanese virtually worship food. I love it. I highly recommend going... just be prepared to do a lot of walking. It's how you get around locally.

Traveling?

14 hours in the air for the international flights seems like a crazy-long time, but the time passes fairly quickly between movies, games, sleep, and multiple tasty meals. Get up and move around as you need to. People don't mind.

The bottom line?

Your generosity enabled an historic meeting, and it was absolutely worth doing and then some. Our communities are closer than ever now, and from what I can see, everyone is excited and eager to see what's next. The Culdcept world is in great, great shape. THANK YOU ALL!

... and of course, if you have questions, ask away in our Discord chat!

Goal Achieved!

We did it!!! We surpassed the $2500 GoFundMe goal!

It's March 1st, and... WE DID IT!!!

Thanks to the Culdcept community, my family and friends, we not only reached the goal, we surpassed it! Through your generosity, we raised $2578!

I'm excited. I fly to Japan in less than 3 weeks!

THANK YOU ALL VERY, VERY MUCH.
